The Afterschool Club gives children from West Baltimore and surrounding communities a place to go where they feel safe, supported, and encouraged. When the school day ends, the club opens its doors to a space filled with learning, creativity, and belonging.
Led by local caregiver staff and volunteers, the Afterschool Club provides consistent structure and care. Families know their children are surrounded by trusted adults who understand their community, while young people gain the extra support they need to succeed.
Activities
Afternoons are a mix of learning, fun, and community. After the daily check-in, children receive homework help and tutoring to stay on track with their studies, followed by a healthy snack to recharge.
The rest of the day is filled with enrichment activities—from art projects and music to sports, games, and creative play. Each activity gives children the chance to learn new skills, build friendships, and express themselves in a safe and joyful environment.
Youth Leadership Development
The Afterschool Club brings together children and teens ages 4 to 18, creating a space where young people grow alongside one another. Older youth set an example for younger children, while younger participants bring energy and creativity that inspires the group.
Through this mix of ages, participants learn to support one another, build bonds, and offer encouragement. These daily interactions foster leadership, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging across all stages of growth and development.
Empowerment
At the Afterschool Club, children and teens learn that their voices and contributions matter. Every participant has jobs and responsibilities within the club—from helping one another with homework to preparing and serving snacks, supporting staff, or even planning and leading activities.
Daily community check-ins give youth the chance to share their thoughts, listen to others, and build trust. As they work together, encourage one another, take on responsibilities, and celebrate each other’s successes, they gain confidence, pride, and a sense of belonging.
By creating space for meaningful roles and real leadership, the Afterschool Club empowers young people to see themselves not just as participants, but as active contributors to their community.
